Many of us have heard a lot about cholesterol and how it bad it is for our body and health. But actually, not all cholesterols are bad and we need some cholesterol in our body to function. It depends on the cholesterol levels of both the good and the bad cholesterol.
Firstly, there is the much unwanted LDL (low density lipoprotein) cholesterol which is the bad cholesterol. Too much of this bad cholesterol will build up in the wall of arteries and form plague. And if a clot is form in the artery, it will blocked the blood from flwoing into the heart which causes heart attack. Too much of bad cholesterol (LDL) can raise your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Then there is the good cholesterol, the HDL (high density lipoprotein). It helps to carry away harmful fatty deposits from cells to the liver to be excreted out from our body. It prevents build up of cholesterol in our arteries.

I think Malaysians eat too much fatty food that will raise their LDL cholesterol and most don’t exercise, so they normally have low HDL - a very good formula for heart attack and stroke!
