With the glooming financial crisis, some companies have no choice but to retrench their employees in order to cut cost. It could also due to business closure, redundancy of employees, restructuring, acquisition and many others.

Retrenchment is terminating the contract of service of the employees. What are the steps for retrenchment that the company has to take?

Before the company retrench the employee, it has to inform the Labour Department 30 days prior to retrenchment. It is done by submitting a Form PK to the Labour Department.

Next, the Labour Dept will take necessary action to ensure that the termination is smooth; wages and termination benefit paid to the employee. The dept will also help to look out alternative job for the employee.

Seems like the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan professed that he is humbled with the Datukship title (Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) awarded by him after all.

He mentioned that he didn’t know about it and thus didn’t stay back for the award and was sick on the Nov 28 ceremony.

He measured it as the British knighthood award and would be scheduling to be here on Saturday to receive it, donned with the traditional official a complete set of black baju Melayu.

He couldn’t care least about all the news in the papers about the controversy of the award, saying that he knows who he is and he knows what he deserved; earning about 2 billion rupee turnover (about USD41 million).

He added that the country Malaysia do not even speak his language. Oh, really?

So much love for Malaysia, so he claims.
