I was elated with the winning of Obama in the US presidency election this time round. Indeed, everything is possible as what he said. He is a democrat and hopefully it would bring positive changes to the economy and the welfare of the people as well as more peace.
But many people are confused with meaning of Democrat and Republican. Here are some rough guidelines of what the two parties believe in after some googling :
Democrats:
Follow a liberal philosophy
Proper for government to ensure that companies do the right thing
Focus more on the welfare programs such as aiding the poor.
Restrict on buying guns.
Oppose the death penalty
Believe that religion and politic are separate entity
Support aids to other countries
Do not believe in war
Accept gay and lesbian rights
Proper role for government is to regulate and oversee the economy
Believe that everyone should work for their own money
Support buying gun
Support death penalty
Support war on terror
